If you expect to achieve sustained growth for your online business and you don't have a plan in place to get you there, you might as well forget it.

Growing a profitable business online is a strategic process that requires long range vision, careful planning, precise execution and patience. It's vital that you know exactly what you want to accomplish and that you have a detailed blueprint to follow.

To start off, you need to have a website that is optimized, has great content, provides a great service or sells a highly demandable product and is tested for errors. Once that is done, you then need to devote your time in developing and executing short-term and long-term promotional strategies. For best results, these strategies should either work on their own or work together.

Here are 5 marketing strategies you can use to help your business and improve your profit margin:

1. Work to increase your sales

You know as well as I do that businesses are driven by sales and sales come from customers. The first step in any marketing stategy is therefore to target your market well and hunt for new customers.

Once the first step is complete, the second step is, from time to time, follow up with these new customers to introduce them to new products or offers. The objective of this is to remind your customers that you are still there and to buy from you again.

Following straight on from the second step is the third and last step, which is to encourage your customers to make larger purchases. This can be done by offering them more expensive products or a bundled package with multiple items - which would interest them.

2. Use your Marketing Budget wisely

Once you've identified your target market, your next goal is to decide on what promotional strategies you are going to use to reach your targeted potential customers, without going over your marketing budget.

This may vary from business to business but the same principles stay the same.
You want to try to expose your products, services and brand as often as possible to comsumers who would be interested in them.

On average, consumers will see or read about a promotion at least five times before thinking of taking action to the offer.

So, knowing this, you should not to blow all your marketing budget on a single advert in the newspaper or a TV as slot during the finals of the X-Factor, even if you think that it's going to reach a lot of your potential customers. You should try to spread out the exposure of your product or services over a period of time.

3. Outsource to a Virtual Assistant

Instead of putting someone perminently on your payroll, you are able to outsource various tasks to someone who is well capable of doing the task for you. The great thing about this is that you won't have to pay them every month (like a regular employee) and you'll be able to devote more of your time on activities that generate income or to grow your business.

Virtual Assistants are people who work from their office via the Internet and are usually independent, self employed contractors - and not home-workers. They are responsible for whatever administrative or operational tasks you assign to them and payment can be agreed as an hourly rate, per assignment or by the retainer.

Of course, if you are not at the stage where you are able to pay for a Virtual Assistant, you can always ask a family member or friend for help. You can also do everything yourself but things would move much
slower and most importantly, you should not even consider this option long-term.

4. Email visitor and convert them to customers

Email Marketing is one of the most cheapest, reliable and environmental ways of exposing yourself and building relationships with your visitors and converting them into customers. It is an effective tool for keeping in touch and developing a level of confort and trust between you and your visitors.

Emails can be used to show and convince your subscribers of your expertise in your field. The more they are convinced and accept you as an authority figure in your field, the more credibility you will have and the easier it will be for you to make sales.

Apart from that, emails can also be used to keep your subscribers of the latest products, services, promotions and announcements of your business.

5.  Set up a system for your business operations

Set up a method or procedure to simplify all your important business operations. Initially, these will start from trial and error but eventually, once you have perfected it, they should become standard
procedure.

You should aim to perfect a system that gets your business tasks done as quickly as possible, with the least possible effort and most importantly, for as little money as possible.

The above stratagies are key stratagies in making your online and offline business a success. If done properly, they will save you time, effort, money and will give you the opportunity for growth and expansion of your business.

Just be consistant in your marketing practices and the results will follow.
