Our client is a newly-formed group structure of established South West social housing providers. They now seek to recruit a NEBOSH certified Health and Safety Officer to join their team based in Torquay.

Taking responsibility for devising, implementing and monitoring a robust health and safety management system, the Health and Safety Officer will also provide advice, support and guidance on all aspects of Health and Safety to the companies throughout the group.

Working closely with senior staff and management, you will assume responsibility for the following key duties:

- Forming and enforcing Health and Safety strategy and policy
- Risk assessments, including fire risk assessments
- Delivering training programmes
- Accident investigation and recording
- Monitoring progress and undertaking safety audits

This is an excellent opportunity for a Health and Safety Officer with relevant health and safety experience to develop this role within our client's new group structure. You must be NEBOSH Diploma (OHSP) qualified or equivalent and will have demonstrable proven ability in translating health and safety legislation into practical solutions in the workplace.

You will also be a graduate member of IOSH or an equivalent organisation, or may be working towards graduate membership. Ideally you will also have specific NEBOSH accreditations in Fire Safety and Risk Management and/or Construction Health and Safety, though these are not essential.

Applicants for the role of Health and Safety Officer will also require the following key skills and experience:

- Experience of working as a Safety Officer/Advisor
- Knowledge of H&S at Work Act 1974, Management of Health & Safety Work reg 1999, Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005
- Experience of interpreting legislative and best practice requirements to implement, monitor and review continuous improvement
- Experience of writing policies, procedures and setting up processes to support a H&S Management System
- Proven experience of undertaking risk assessments, workplace inspections and investigating accidents
- Detailed knowledge and understanding of fire safety legislation
- Ability to identify and effectively deliver health and safety training.
- Effectiveness of managing a health and safety budget and delivering health and safety initiatives within budget
- Ability to proficiently use Microsoft Word 2003, Excel and PowerPoint

In addition, our client is particularly keen to hear from candidates with experience working with a Direct Labour Team, implementing lone working policies and procedures, and with knowledge of the building and construction industry and areas of risk relating to Housing Associations and Supported Housing Departments - though these attributes are by no means essential.
